This year’s survey shows a digitalization boost in the coronavirus year, with top figures for TV and radio
LINK surveyed 1,759 people from the start of April to the end of May 2020 on behalf of IGEM (Interest Group for Electronic Media) and WEMF AG für Medienforschung. The IGEM digiMONITOR is a representative study of persons aged 15 and above in the German- and French-speaking parts of Switzerland on the use of electronic media and devices in Switzerland.
Digitalization boost for electronic devices: smartphone users up by 600,000 people. Half a million more Swiss people using laptops.
Growth for all social media platforms. Even Facebook is making a recovery. TikTok is currently growing the fastest, but primarily among young women in Switzerland.
Netflix has passed the two million mark with 400,000 new users. 3.2 million people went to the cinema in the last six months. With six million viewers, traditional television has just under three times as many viewers as Netflix.
Spotify has 300,000 new users. The majority of the two million users have a paid subscription with Spotify. With 5.7 million listeners, radio has almost three times as many listeners as Spotify.
Sharp increase in the coronavirus year in cashless payment by mobile phone. 1.8 million pay cashless for their shopping by smartphone. That’s 650,000 more people than in the previous year.
Swiss payment app Twint is the market leader ahead of Apple Pay or Google Pay.
The IGEM-digiMONITOR survey has been carried out annually since 2014 by IGEM and WEMF AG für Werbemedienforschung and enables seven-year comparisons from 2014 to 2020.
